Openvr: improvised helmet vr of $150 kits

Turkish engineer Ahmet Yildyrim (Ahmet Yildirim) has long been interested in the virtual reality helmet Oculus Rift, but has kept his purchase. The last drop was a quadrocopter project through the glasses, getting a picture in real time. But here, Ahmet found that the right points are $150-300 and provide a field of view only 40°, while Oculus Rift gives 110° at the same price of approximately $300. It's stupid to buy glasses in this situation.

Now the engineer had to think: buy an original Oculus Rift kit or make analog on his own, especially since he had experience with stereoscopic vision systems. For starters, he ordered a couple of aspherical lenses 50 mm and ran a couple of smartphone and hand-held tests. The results were so good that there was no way back. Had to do a VR helmet.

Achmet added the value of the components:

  • 5.6 " 1280x800 LCD
  • 3D printer
  • Adapter 12B
  • USB - tie TTL
  • Aspherical lenses 50 mm (5XZ)
  • Arduino Mini Pro
  • GY-85 9DOF IMU
  • The wire, the foam for the lining, the glue and the other.
